Mrs. Rossana Maria Briceño
Spouse of the Prime Minister of Belize
Mrs. Rossana Maria Briceño, born on July 26, 1968, is an esteemed Belizean Special Needs Educator, and is married to the current Prime Minister of Belize, Mr. John Briceño.
Raised in Orange Walk Town, Belize, Mrs. Briceño sought a more service-oriented career path and attended University of North Florida, where she obtained a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Houston Baptist University, where she obtained a Master’s in Curriculum Development and Diagnostic Assessment. She also has a Bachelor’s in Special Education.
In her early years, she worked at the Stella Maris Government School, the only school in Belize that specializes in teaching special needs students at the elementary level.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Briceño has also worked closely with several women’s group, including WOM (Women On the Move), where she helped champion and advocated for women against violence and assisted in providing safe homes for women in need. Currently, she is the Principal at St. Peter’s Anglican School, where she oversees the administration of a fully functional special need center at the secondary level.
Appointed as the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children on January 22nd, 2021, Mrs. Briceño’s goal, over the next five years, will be to build relationships with and empower vulnerable families and children, with a focus on special needs families and children, who are unable to achieve healthy and productive lives for meaningful participation in Belize’s development because of various interconnected deficiencies.
Mrs. Briceño was married on November 9, 1987 and has three children, Daniel, John and Andre.
